Ref. 5531R-012

World Time Minute Repeater

An unworn, exquisite and highly important pink gold minute repeating world time wristwatch with miniature cloisonné enamel dial, additional solid caseback, Certificate of Origin and presentation box

The Patek Philippe Ref. 5531R-012 World Time Minute Repeater is a masterpiece that exemplifies the brand’s commitment to innovation, craftsmanship, and horological excellence. This reference builds upon the legacy of the original 5531R, which debuted in 2017 at the Art of Watches Grand Exhibition in New York. That initial release was a limited edition of ten pieces featuring cloisonné enamel dials depicting the Manhattan skyline. Due to its success, Patek Philippe introduced the model into its regular collection in 2018, with the 5531R-012 showcasing a cloisonné enamel dial of the Lavaux vineyards on the shores of Lake Geneva, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

What makes the 5531R-012 truly exceptional is its status as the first wristwatch to combine a minute repeater and world time function in a fully integrated movement. Powered by the automatic calibre R 27 HU, the watch can chime the local time of the city displayed at 12 o’clock on the world time dial, which is an innovation unique to Patek Philippe. Traditional minute repeaters chime the time shown by the main hands, regardless of the world time setting. In contrast, the 5531R-012 synchronises both complications, offering a seamless and accurate auditory representation of local time.

The repeater mechanism itself is also groundbreaking. For the first time in Patek Philippe’s history, the gongs are attached directly to the caseband rather than the movement plate. This design significantly enhances the clarity and richness of the chime, although it requires more intricate adjustment during assembly. The case, crafted in 18K pink gold, measures 40.2mm and features skeletonised lugs and Clous de Paris guilloché engraving along the caseband, repeater slide, and world time pusher.

Offered in unworn condition along with its full set of accessories by the original owner, the present example is not just a technical marvel but also a celebration of rare handcrafts. Its cloisonné enamel dial, depicting the tranquil beauty of Lake Geneva, is a testament to the artistry and attention to detail that defines Patek Philippe. With production concluded in 2023, this reference stands as one of the most accomplished and visually captivating grand complications in modern watchmaking.
