Catalogue Essay
Released in 2004, the Patek Philippe reference 5970 had one of the shortest production runs in the brand's history, lasting approximately seven years from 2004 to 2011. This particular reference was the last perpetual calendar chronograph model to utilize the Lemania 2310-based movement.
As the proud successor to Patek Philippe’s esteemed perpetual calendar chronographs, including references 1518, 2499, and 3970, the reference 5970 marked the first model developed and designed by Thierry Stern upon assuming leadership of the brand. The pink gold variant, like the present example, along with the white gold version, was introduced in 2004 and remained in production until 2009.
The tachymeter scale elegantly encircles the day and month windows, which are exceptionally clear and legible. The three subdials are perfectly aligned and symmetrical with the outer dial, as well as with the minutes, hours and chronograph hands.
Fresh to the market and preserved in new-old-stock condition, the case has further developed a nice layer of patina throughout due to prolonged storage in the safe. This piece comes complete with its full set of accessories, including an additional caseback and setting pin. This represents a rare opportunity to acquire one of Patek Philippe’s last classic perpetual calendar chronograph models in pink gold.
