Patek Philippe reference 5980/1 was initially introduced in 2006 together with its time-only brother reference 5711 - the year the Nautilus collection celebrated its 30th anniversary. Equipped with the manufacturer's first in-house self-winding chronograph calibre CH 28-520, the design of the newly introduced model was entirely new and revolutionary as the Nautilus collection had never incorporated a chronograph function before.
Though released with a blue dial in 2006, the anthracite dial, like the present watch, of the -014 variant was produced for an extremely short period of time, from 2010 to 2014. The dial is further simplified via a subsidiary dial combining all registers into one, forming what is dubbed as the “bull’s eye” counter due to its dual-tone colorway and red accents.
The fully stainless steel version in all dial variants was discontinued in 2014 and replaced by the reference 5990. Preserved in like new, virtually unworn condition, the present timepiece comes with its original certificate of origin, setting pin, and fitted box, from the collection of the original owner.
