Since introducing their first serially produced pure chronograph wristwatch with reference 130 in the 1930s, Patek Philippe has continued to create some of the most prized, valuable, and impressive chronograph wristwatches over the decades. The introduction of reference 5070 in 1998 was a milestone, marking the firm’s first pure chronograph since the legendary reference 1463. Initially released in yellow gold, it was later made available in white and pink gold, with a platinum version introduced in 2008. Production of the platinum variant was short, spanning until 2010, when the reference was replaced by the ref. 5170.

Drawing inspiration from the rare and desirable unique reference 2512—with its 48 mm stepped case and applied Arabic numerals—the ref. 5070 is a modern homage to this elusive predecessor. Exuding purity and classic chronograph aesthetics, its two-register dial is perfectly centered and aligned with the crown, achieving proportions that are simply jaw-dropping. Powered by the Lemania-based caliber CH 27-70, the 5070 was the last Patek Philippe chronograph to utilize an outsourced movement, making it a rare occasion unlikely to be repeated. Throughout its production, approximately 1,000 examples were cased in each of yellow, white, and pink gold, with only 500 examples produced in platinum.

Patek Philippe

Swiss | 1839

Since its founding in 1839, this famous Geneva-based firm has been surprising its clientele with superbly crafted timepieces fitted with watchmaking's most prestigious complications. Traditional and conservative designs are found across Patek Philippe's watches made throughout their history — the utmost in understated elegance.

Well-known for the Graves Supercomplication — a highly complicated pocket watch that was the world’s most complicated watch for 50 years — this family-owned brand has earned a reputation of excellence around the world. Patek's complicated vintage watches hold the highest number of world records for results achieved at auction compared with any other brand. For collectors, key models include the reference 1518, the world's first serially produced perpetual calendar chronograph, and its successor, the reference 2499. Other famous models include perpetual calendars such as the ref. 1526, ref. 3448 and 3450, chronographs such as the reference 130, 530 and 1463, as well as reference 1436 and 1563 split seconds chronographs. Patek is also well-known for their classically styled, time-only "Calatrava" dress watches, and the "Nautilus," an iconic luxury sports watch first introduced in 1976 as the reference 3700 that is still in production today.
