GOOD TO KNOW
• Special edition launched for the opening of the Saatchi Gallery in London in 2015
• Fresh to public market
• Offered as a complete collector’s set in outstanding condition
• One of only 5 believed to have been produced

Initially introduced in 1998, Patek Philippe’s reference 5070 marked a significant milestone for the manufacture, representing its first non-perpetual calendar chronograph wristwatch in nearly four decades. At its heart beats the manual-winding caliber CH 27-70, derived from the highly refined Lemania 2310 ébauche. Celebrated as one of the most accomplished chronograph movements ever conceived, it is exquisitely finished to the standards of the Geneva Seal and offers an impressive power reserve of approximately 60 hours. Today, the reference 5070 stands as an icon, embodying one of the most inspired and creative eras in Patek Philippe’s modern history.

Although the model was officially discontinued in 2009, Patek Philippe discreetly extended the life of the reference for a select group of its most esteemed clients, offering the possibility of bespoke dial configurations. Very rarely seen in the public market and executed with utmost discretion, these special order pieces occupy the highest tier of collectability, whispered about among connoisseurs yet rarely encountered.

The present example, cased in white gold, is distinguished by its striking salmon dial, a tone reserved exclusively for the special edition created by Patek Philippe for the Watch Art Grand Exhibition held at the Saatchi Gallery in London in 2015. Within the same landmark exhibition, the manufacture also unveiled the Patek Philippe ref. 3940G-029 featuring a matching salmon dial. We are pleased to present such an example as lot 87 in this sale, consigned from the same distinguished collection, further underscoring the coherence and discernment of the collector.

Offered as a complete set and preserved in excellent overall condition, the present watch is fresh-to-the-public-market and represents a rare opportunity to acquire a historically significant and highly exclusive example from the world of Patek Philippe’s special order creations.

Patek Philippe

Swiss | 1839

Since its founding in 1839, this famous Geneva-based firm has been surprising its clientele with superbly crafted timepieces fitted with watchmaking's most prestigious complications. Traditional and conservative designs are found across Patek Philippe's watches made throughout their history — the utmost in understated elegance.

Well-known for the Graves Supercomplication — a highly complicated pocket watch that was the world’s most complicated watch for 50 years — this family-owned brand has earned a reputation of excellence around the world. Patek's complicated vintage watches hold the highest number of world records for results achieved at auction compared with any other brand. For collectors, key models include the reference 1518, the world's first serially produced perpetual calendar chronograph, and its successor, the reference 2499. Other famous models include perpetual calendars such as the ref. 1526, ref. 3448 and 3450, chronographs such as the reference 130, 530 and 1463, as well as reference 1436 and 1563 split seconds chronographs. Patek is also well-known for their classically styled, time-only "Calatrava" dress watches, and the "Nautilus," an iconic luxury sports watch first introduced in 1976 as the reference 3700 that is still in production today.
