Reference 2499/100 is the 4th and last generation of Patek Philippe’s most iconic perpetual calendar chronograph wristwatch. It was introduced in 1980 and remains in production until 1985 when replaced by reference 3970. Collectors consider it the last true vintage masterpiece with these signature complications and excellent examples, like the present one, are becoming rarer and rarer. Made in 1984, this example was retailed by Beyer in Zurich, the distinguished family-owned retailer at Bahnhofstrasse. Beyer Chronometrie is one of the very few retailers in the world who have been granted the privilege, as late as the 1980s, to apply their signatures on the dials of Patek Philippe’s most complicated watches. Beyer also marked each Patek Philippe with their internal code, a fact little known amongst collectors. This reference 2499/100 is coded inside the case back. Much to the educated collectors delight, the original certificate of this trophy watch is still present some over 30 years later. As a connoisseur would expect, it also features the internal Beyer code, handwritten in green ballpoint pen. We understand that this watch is now being offered by the second owner since new. The case has extraordinary proportions and appears to have never been re-polished. Without exaggeration, this double-signed reference 2499/100 is a premium example and a trophy for any discerning collector.
