Catalogue Essay
The present folding stool by Poul Hundevad takes its name from a Danish burial mound excavated in 1891 that included the oldest preserved chair from the Bronze Age in Europe. Hundevad recreated the form of this ancient stool but imbued it with a modern sensibility as well as his expert cabinetmaking skills. This stool—which provides additional functionality and versatility because of its folding form—is perhaps the designer’s most famous design.
