Released in 2020, the RM65-01 was launched after five years of development. An automatic split-seconds chronograph, it was at the time of launch the most complex watch ever produced by the brand. To deliver exceptional timekeeping precision and enable stopwatch measurements accurate to one-tenth of a second, this model is equipped with a high-frequency, variable-inertia balance oscillating at 5 Hz (36,000 vibrations per hour). The split-seconds function, also known as a rattrapante, allows for the measurement of intermediate times—marking the first time Richard Mille had incorporated this complication into an automatic movement.
This mechanism drives two superimposed yet partially independent hands. The main hand is operated by the pusher at 2 o’clock, which starts and stops the chronograph. The second hand, activated by the pusher at 10 o’clock, halts the split-seconds hand to record an intermediate time while the chronograph continues running. Pressing the pusher once more allows the split-seconds hand to catch up with the main chronograph hand. Both hands are reset via a separate pusher positioned at 4 o’clock.
Preserved in excellent condition, the present watch is accompanied by its Richard Mille Warranty dated March 14, 2023, product literature, book, presentation box and outer packaging.
Richard Mille
Swiss | 1999Established in 1999, Richard Mille's ultra-modern timepieces combine cutting-edge materials from high performance worlds such as Formula 1 racecars with high-end traditional watchmaking. The brand's revolutionary designs, technical breakthroughs and exceptional hand-finishing excite even the most discriminating collectors, and have positioned Richard Mille alongside the top makers of the modern luxury watch world.
Innovative watches, such as the RM 027 Tourbillon, which was the world’s lightest mechanical watch when introduced in 2011, have helped the brand invert the concept of the luxury watch. Key models include the RM 009 Tourbillon cased in Aluminum Silicon Carbide (AlSiC), the RM 027-02 Tourbillon made for tennis star Rafael Nadal with a case made from quartz and carbon fiber and the RM 008 split seconds chronograph.
