In the year 2000, Rolex had yet another technological advancement for the new millennium, the first in-house self-winding chronograph movement cal.4130 fitted for the Cosmograph Daytona ref. 116520. The reference replaces its predecessor ref.16520 powered by the famed Zenith El Primero cal.4030.

Highly sought after as one of Rolex’s crown jewel by collectors, the present example bearing a P serial has an unusual trait that further heighten its rarity and collectability. During the two years between 2000 to 2002, white dials manufactured by Rolex with serials P, K and Y have a high tendency of developing a colour change into a creamy hue naturally. A trait developed at random and over time, the present example still retains its original pure white dial. The present watch stamped J. Farren-Price was purchased from one of Australia’s most well-known retailer and the first offical Rolex and Tudor authrorized agent in the country since its inception in 1942. By 1954 with
20 J. Farren-Price branches now in Australia, the retailer was considered the country’s largest watch organisation and had became a household name by 1950/60’s. In that era there was a good chance your first watch would have come from J. Farren-Price.
