Romain Gauthier began his professional life as a micro-mechanical engineer, but he could not deny that watchmaking was in his blood, as both of his parents had worked for manufactures such as Audemars Piguet, Lemania, and Dubois Dépraz. He launched his watch brand in 2005 with the Prestige HM, which was well-received by collectors, largely due to the exquisite movement finishing incorporating brushed and grained finishes with sharply hand-beveled edges. Indeed, no less a personage than Philippe Dufour himself inspired Gauthier not only to establish his own brand rather than a single timepiece, but encouraged him to push the envelope of craftsmanship.

The “C” (Continuum) model was introduced as a contrast to Gauthier’s more classical haute horlogerie style bringing a sportier, more contemporary aesthetic to the brand. The initial C by Romain Gauthier Titanium Edition was released in 2021 without bracelet and a year later with integrated bracelet like the present lot. The watch is highlighted by the bold salmon dial, which was offered for only two years (2023 and 2024), off-center subsidiary seconds with light blue starburst design and oversized Arabic numerals. Through the sapphire crystal caseback, the superbly hand-finished technical movement will resonate with collectors. The in-house caliber features a stop seconds mechanism with snail cam that stops the balance wheel when the crown is pulled out, and then gives the balance wheel an impulse to start again. Romain Gauthier is appreciated by collectors for his mechanical mastery, exquisite finishing, and innovative design, and the sporty “C” series is certain to impress all who see it.
