Catalogue Essay
- Sartory Billard is a relatively young creative micro brand founded by its industrial designer turned watchmaker, Armand Billard.
- The present timepiece is his most celebrated creation, which features an innovative, elaborate non-painted blue dial. According to the watchmaker, the blinding metallic sheen on the SB04 “Blue Titanium” is an illusion caused by the ‘out-phased arrival’ of light as it hits the oxidised titanium's mirror-polished surface. He cleverly establishes when the light beam is partly absorbed and partly reflected, it emerges in a reduced wavelength. In other words, a blue-coloured light reaches the eye.
- Armoured in full-titanium livery, the dial is decorated with hands and indexes in polished titanium, fitted in a 40mm case fashioned from the same material with contrasting satin-finished and sandblasted details.
- One of Armand Billard’s core values is honouring his client’s wishes; thus each piece is uniquely and carefully executed to the highest standards. Offered in “like-new” condition, the present SB04 is engraved with a “piece unique” designation that highlights the watchmaker’s focus on artisanal independent watchmaking.
