Freak Phantom

An interesting, unconventional and very fine white gold wristwatch with carrousel "tourbillon", dual escapement, seven days power reserve, guarantee and presentation box

- A staple within the Ulysse Nardin collection for the past 20 years, the Freak can be considered today as one of the most iconic models of the brand. Originally launched in 2001, at the time it was the first wristwatch to incorporate two silicon impulse wheels as part of the Ludwig Oechslin double wheel escapement. It rethinks the keyless watch, instead of a crown the watch is wound by turning the caseback and set by turning the bezel, which can be locked in place when not in use.

- Originally conceived as a central carrousel "tourbillon" project, the Freak was designed by Carole Forestier Kasapi and executed by genius watchmaker Ludovic Oeschlin, Ulysse Nardin’s technical director. The direct outcome was truly extraordinary with the rotating movement visible on the dial side, and the gear train and escapement revolving once every hour, serving as both the minutes hand.

- Blue phantom debuted in 2008, and was upgraded version of the original freak. It displayed a larger diameter of 44.8 millimetres. It notably uses clear sapphire jewels rather than conventional pinkish-red rubies, even the shock setting, something few manufacturers care about but makes a significant difference here.
