Building upon the success of his celebrated time-only Vingt-8, Voutilainen introduced the Vingt-8 Inversé in 2019, a conceptually daring reinterpretation of his signature calibre 28. As its name suggests, the movement is inverted, revealing on the dial side what is traditionally concealed beneath the case back. This transformation required significant re-engineering, most notably the addition of an indirect gear train visible at the center of the dial, allowing the hands to travel conventionally clockwise while preserving the integrity of the inverted architecture.
The visual result is both striking and harmonious. The open dial places the escapement and oversized balance wheel prominently on display, showcasing Voutilainen’s mastery of both aesthetics and mechanics. The reverse of the watch continues this display of technical artistry, featuring openworked bridges supporting the subsidiary seconds and power reserve indications. These elements add depth and symmetry to the composition, reinforcing the duality between dial and movement sides.
Produced in an exceptionally limited series of just 26 pieces, comprising 10 in tantalum, 8 in titanium, and 8 in platinum, the Vingt-8 Inversé stands among the rarest and most distinctive expressions of Voutilainen’s oeuvre.
