  • Catalogue Essay

Sasnal is a painter of the present day, his works often differ so much from each other that one could suppose they had been painted by numerous artists. However all of them share a common deep sensibility of the author which reflects both political, moral and aesthetic aspects of reality. In his works, Sasnal extends different feelings, emotions and events which he has experienced. He lets these moments linger, to give us an opportunity to focus on the details, have a closer look at the car accident or a movie fragment he has seen on the television. Though the fragment he extracts he extracts remains cold and dead, often enigmatic or vague, Sasnal has the ability to transform it into a multi-directional work, infusing it with meaning, a work which dwells upon the detail and eventually blows it up from the inside. In our present lot, Flood, Wilhelm Sasnsal creates an atmosphere of withdrawn calm that seems removed of life, almost as if the artist has installed a state of minimalism to reign over the landscape caused by the flood that overtakes the architecture. The natural state of disaster and life are removed from the scene leaving the city clean and devoid of emotion.
