Editions Department
Phillips defines the Editions category. Our curated sales of museum-quality Modern and Contemporary prints and multiples offer budding collectors and seasoned connoisseurs the opportunity to acquire original and important works by masters of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. We pride ourselves on educating a new generation's eye by introducing our clients to new artists and techniques, responding to collecting trends and presenting superb examples of rare and iconic artworks.
We are dedicated to elevating the status of Editions as an artistically significant, often experimental and endlessly fascinating collecting category. Auctions are held globally throughout the year in our New York and London salerooms and we were the first international auction house to hold curated Evening Sales of the best and rarest works of the season. Our sophisticated approach yields exceptional results, resulting in the strongest performance against the estimate in the industry.
2023 saw the most Editions auctions ever produced globally by Phillips, with 11 total sales that showcased the depth of the print and multiples category. We continued to expand the specialized roster of single artists sales, with the second year of White-Glove Hockney sales in a row and debut online auctions for David Shrigley prints and Picasso ceramics. This expansion of the sale calendar resulted in a global sale total of over $37 million (the second highest total ever), with 91% of lots sold, 382 world records set, and 334 new to market works. We look forward to continuing to showcase prints in dynamic and innovative ways in the coming year.
Designed exclusively to showcase Modern and Contemporary Art, our state of the art galleries enable clients to interact with Editions in the highest quality aesthetic experience the commercial art world has to offer. Each main season Editions pre-sale exhibition receives over a 1,000 visitors, many of whom are discovering Phillips for the first time, resulting in an average of 34% new bidders at every Editions auction.
Phillips' dynamic digital marketing and communications campaigns ensure the greatest possible visibility for Editions auctions. Our engaging scholarly online essays and video content, are held as the benchmark for the presentation of Editions sales. Artworks are further promoted with gallery tours, receptions and panel discussions involving prominent experts and artists.
Phillips' superior ability to orchestrate Editions sales and cultivate new, enthusiastic collectors is unrivaled in the field. If you are interested in receiving a valuation, selling your Editions with us or would like some advice on growing your collection, please be in touch. Consignment deadlines are two months prior to a sale.
