13 years after the first Zeitwerk was born, the second generation of the legacy elevated with remarkable refinements. Launched in 2022 with 142.025 in platinum (see previous lot) and ref. 142.031 in pink gold, the entire watch impressively downsized its thickness from 12.6mm to 12.2mm thanks to the revamped calibre L043. A total of 451 parts including a constant-force mechanism with stacked barrel design housing two mainsprings. Thinner yet more powerful, its power reserve took a leap forward doubling to 72 hours.

Hitting all the right notes starting with the new quickset hour pusher that collectors appreciate, the new Zeitwerk is more travel friendly and ergonomically well thought out. The black dial also features small refinements such as the red indicator on the power reserve for legibility, as well as a larger sub-seconds register and thinner German silver time bridge thanks to the smaller “Made in Germany” inscription.

The present timpiece is the first of its kind to be offered publicly at auction and preserved in “like-new” condition, making it an unmissable opportunity for the discerning collector of high-end timepieces.

A. Lange & Söhne

German | 1845
Originally founded in 1845 by Ferdinand Adolph Lange in Glashütte, Dresden, Germany, the firm established an entire watchmaking culture and industry in Glashütte. The brand quickly became Germany's finest watchmaker, first creating dependable, easy-to-repair watches before going on to produce some of the world's finest complicated pocket watches, including Grande Sonnerie watches, tourbillon watches and Grande Complications.
On the final day of World War II, their factories were destroyed by Russian bombers, and in 1948 the brand was confiscated by the Soviet Union. Following the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1990, Ferdinand's great grandson Walter Lange re-established the brand with the objective to once again produce top-quality luxury watches. Now part of the Richemont Group, its original vintage and modern creations are highly coveted by collectors. Key models from the modern era include the Lange 1, Pour Le Mérite Tourbillon and the Zeitwerk.
