Introduced at Baselworld in 1999, the A. Lange & Söhne Datograph marked a turning point in modern horology and remains one of the most celebrated chronographs ever created. Cased in 39mm platinum and fitted with a rich black dial, it immediately set new benchmarks for both design and technical innovation. The flyback function allowed the chronograph to be reset and restarted instantly with a single push of the button, underscoring the ingenuity of Lange’s engineering. Revered collectors and connoisseurs, including the legendary watchmaker Philippe Dufour, quickly hailed the Datograph as one of their all-time favorite timepieces.
While the first generation was later produced in other case metals and dial variations, the original platinum and black dial combination is the version that captured the imagination of the watch world when it debuted. German | 1845Originally founded in 1845 by Ferdinand Adolph Lange in Glashütte, Dresden, Germany, the firm established an entire watchmaking culture and industry in Glashütte.
