Named after one of the founders of the Le Brassus based manufacturer Audemars Piguet, the Jules Audemars collection of timepieces was first introduced to the public in 1978, paying homage to their ingenious founder who was a renowned pioneer of complicated timepieces at the time. Said to have created over twenty complex movements, Jules Audemars used these movements as a collateral when he partnered with Edward Piguet in 1881.

Initially developed in the early 1800s by French Clockmaker Blondeau, the jump hour mechanism enabled a new found way to display time with the hour indicated via a window and its minute depicted via a central hand. Audemars Piguet first incorporated the mechanism in their timepieces in the early 20th century.
