In the late 1990s, Seiko set out to revive its production of mechanical chronographs, enlisting the expertise of seasoned engineers and watchmakers, some of whom had retired but eagerly returned for this endeavor. This initiative led to the introduction of the Series 6S calibres in 1998, originally intended for the domestic market and housed within Seiko's prestigious Credor line.
Among these remarkable calibres, the cal. 6S99 stands out as the most prestigious, featuring intricate decorations that are truly a sight to behold. This movement beautifully integrates traditional Japanese culture; the golden plate atop the movement showcases a 「水煙」 design inspired by the pillars commonly found atop traditional Japanese temple towers, adorned with a 「青海波」wave-like pattern. The chronograph components are seamlessly integrated and silver finished with a perlage pattern, epitomize luxury.
The front side of the dial is equally mesmerizing with the golden plates and mother-of-pearl accents, shimmering with rainbow hues depending on the viewing angle, adding a touch of glamour to the watch. This particular reference, encased in luxurious platinum, is a non-limited edition variant of the ref. GBBL997 that was sold in 2000 in a limited run of just 40 pieces. With its exquisite fluted bezel and striking blue hands, this elegant platinum case and intricate design make this watch a true standout.
