- Daniel Roth established himself as an early pioneer of independent watchmaking when he founded his eponymous brand in 1989. Alongside disruptors like Urwerk, MB&F and Richard Mille, Roth laid foundations for today’s avant-garde watchmakers. With distinctive style, fresh design and technical brilliance, Roth quickly became a legend.
- Made soon after the acquisition of the brand by Bulgari in 2000, the present Datomax still channels the visionary watchmaker’s time at Breguet. Noticeable in details like the steel blued hands, oversized Roman numerals and guilloche dial.
- The double-ellipse white gold case is a Roth signature that circumvents the crowd. Its audacious shape – conforming to neither round, square nor octagon – measures 38mm x 35mm, bold yet comfy. The small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock, with anchor-shaped hand, marries serenity and meticulousness.
- What truly sets this timepiece apart however is the Omani Crown Khanjar etched on the sapphire caseback. Possibly a state gift to the original recipient, the present example of Datomax represents a chance to acquire truly a classic and rare timepiece.
