Good To Know:
- The 10th piece to be made from the limited edition model
- 6th example to appear in the public auction market
- Complete with its full set of accessories
In celebration of French racing driver Jean Alesi’s participation in the emblematic Indianapolis 500 Miles races, F.P. Journe devoted a limited edition of 99 pieces, the Octa Sport Indy 500, to the iconic sportsman, each individually numbered from 501 to 599. Drawing from the original Octa Sport, this model is encased in a high technology aluminium alloy often used in aeronautics. The blackened aluminium case is fitted with a black dial with the signatures of the Indy 500, Lotus and Jean Alesi, reinforcing the watchmaker’s support of motor racing.
The present model is astoundingly light and sits comfortably on the wrist as it only weighs 53g, despite its staggering 42mm waistline. In correspondence to the lightness of the case, the automatic cal. 1300.3 within is fitted with a unidirectional rotor made of aluminium alloy with an additional tungsten segment to increase the winding speed. Assembled from 86 components, each part is finished to the highest degree as like all other F.P. Journe creations. The bridges are embellished with Côtes de Genève embellishment and the baseplate is also grained.
Offered in excellent overall condition, the present Octa Sport Indy 500 is not only the sixth example to appear in the public auction market, it is also the earliest example numbered 510 (the 10th piece out of 99 pieces made). Furthermore, it is complete with its guarantee card as well as its original presentation box and red outer box.

F.P. Journe
Swiss | 1999Founded by watchmaker François-Paul Journe in 1999, the F.P. Journe brand is relatively young, but already is as highly regarded by collectors as many distinguished manufacturers with centuries-old heritage. In the minds of the world's savviest collectors, Journe is producing some of the finest wristwatches the market has ever seen. Mastering his craft from restoring historical timepieces, he was the first to create a wristwatch incorporating two escapements that benefit from the phenomenon of resonance — the Chronomètre à Résonance.
Key models include the Résonance, tourbillon wristwatches incorporating a remontoir and the limited edition Vagabondage series. Especially sought-after are his earliest "souscription" watches, made in 1999.
