The 44GS was introduced in 1967, seven years after the launch of the first Grand Seiko and was designed to embody a distinctly Japanese aesthetic that aligns with the ideals of Grand Seiko.

From its inception, Grand Seiko aimed to create a watch that would set the standard for precision, durability and beauty. Among its models, none has influenced future Grand Seiko designs as profoundly as the 44GS. As the first model produced by Daini Seikosha, it established the design language that would define all subsequent Grand Seiko watches, making it both a milestone and a foundational piece in the brand's history.

The 37mm case is characterized by a complex interplay of flat and rounded surfaces, sharp angles and elegant curves. Produced for only two short years, the 44GS was available in two variants: stainless steel and capped gold. The steel model featured two dial options—an early version with "Diashock" printed on the dial and a later version, like the present example, showcasing the Daini Seikosha logo.

This particular 44GS is not only in exceptionally attractive condition but also comes as a full set, complete with its original paperwork, box and outer packaging, enhancing its collectibility. Adding to its charm, the caseback is engraved in Japanese with 「永年勤続記念」and 「住友銀行」, indicating that the original owner likely received this watch from the management of the Sumitomo Bank in recognition of their long-standing service, typically over ten years.
