GOOD TO KNOW:
- Features a “Royal Khanjar” dial
- Commissioned by the Sultan of Oman
- Gay Frères bracelet and clasp
Originally launched in 1955, the IWC Ingenieur gained iconic status in the 1970s when Gérald Genta designed the Ingenieur SL ref. 1832: a bold stainless steel sports watch with an integrated bracelet. The present yellow gold ref. 9225 Ingenieur is distinguished by its Khanjar symbol on the dial at 9 o’clock. This example most notably features a crown above.
Such watches were commissioned by the Sultan of Oman, an important collector in his own right, to be offered as gifts to foreign dignitaries and loyal staff. To the best of our knowledge, those with a crowned Khanjar emblem on the dial means it was gifted from the Sultan directly, and those with the original Khanjar means that it was gifted by the state of Oman.
The present watch is further distinguished by a Gay Frères bracelet and clasp, adding to the collectability of the timepiece. Presented in excellent overall condition with crisp hallmarks, this IWC Ingenieur offers collectors a chance to acquire a timepiece of important provenance.
