Peder Severin Krøyer, more commonly recognized by his initials P.S. Krøyer, was the most internationally successful Danish painter of his generation and a defining figure of the Modern Breakthrough. Instrumental in introducing French naturalism and plein-air painting to Denmark, Krøyer stimulated a redirection of Danish art away from academic conservatism.
