In 1939, Patek Philippe introduced the reference 1415 HU (heures universelles), which was their first world time wristwatch and was historically significant for its innovative movement. Based on the ground breaking work of Louis Cottier and his world time pocket watches from two years earlier, the new model was diminutive in size at 31mm diameter, but met a growing need as international travel became more common, and there was a desire to keep track of time across the globe. Approximately 115 examples were produced, and overtime the brand enhanced the design by adding an extremely rare cloisonné enamel map to the center of the dial, an example of which sold at Phillips Geneva in May 2018, lot 268 for 972,500 CHF. With changing tastes and styles and always seeking to innovative and upgrade, Patek Philippe released their reference 2523 world time in 1953 with a 36mm diameter wristwatch and two-crown setting and winding system. Some examples featured very rare enamel dials. Today, these watches are highly collectible and sought after by passionate collectors. In keeping with their long and traditional past, Patek Philippe released their reference 5110 world time wristwatch in 2000, which later replaced it with the reference 5130, and the reference 5131 with cloisonné map dial in 2008.

The present model in pink gold is in unused condition and remains single sealed. It is fresh to the market and is a lovely representation of this model. Produced in a large 39.5mm diameter cases, it was offered in yellow, white and pink gold models, and while now disconnected, Patek Philippe released the current platinum example in 2017. The reference 5131 featured the ultra-thin caliber 240 HU with micro-rotor, and a variety of enamel dials featuring Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas. This handsome pink gold model features Asia and the Americas, and a fine example of the high quality cloisonné enamel workmanship by Patek Philippe artisans. Accompanied by the Certificate of Origin, presentation box and hang tag, this is an attractive and modern iteration of one of the brands most historical timepieces.
