Arguably one of the most timeless and elegant time-only references ever created by Patek Philippe, the reference 2526 is impossible not to admire. Debuting in 1953, it marks a significant milestone as Patek Philippe’s first-ever serially produced automatic wristwatch. Its practical self-winding caliber is paired with an unbeatable classic design featuring a tastefully executed off-white enamel dial. Produced in various metals including yellow gold, pink gold, white gold, and platinum, it is estimated that only about 2,500 examples were made during its production run until 1960.
This appealing yellow gold example belongs to the third series and features a flat screw-down case back, an exquisite enamel dial with applied indexes, a period-correct smaller index at 6 o’clock, and the charming original forged “double P” crown. Equally notable is the caliber 12-600 movement inside, often regarded as one of the finest automatic movements ever created.
Offered in excellent overall condition, this example has been well-preserved in this collection for over 20 years. The case has developed a lovely layer of patina in places, and the hallmark between the lugs remains deep and crisp. The dial has aged beautifully to a lovely egg white hue. It is truly a splendid epitome of elegance and a rare gem that should not be overlooked by discerning connoisseurs.
