Piaget is among the most inventive brands. The unrestrained creativity they pour in their oeuvre is as apparent today as it was half a century ago, during the 1960s and 1970s - a golden age for design. Not only during these years Piaget started to create jewellery, but it also devised some of its most audacious timepieces, ranging from gem-set watches to incredible design creations. The present wristwatch is a modern interpretation of one of the most iconic Piaget watches of the time: the Black Tie, aka “Andy Warhol” after one of its most illustrious wearers.
Intriguingly, rather than experimenting with organic or over the top designs as it often did back then, Piaget opted in this case for a very monolithic architecture, defined by a massive cushion-shaped case with multiple steps to the bezel. Deceitfully simple, in fact nailing the perfect proportions - as the brand did - so that the watch manages to convey elegance and gravitas at the same time is at the opposite side of the spectrum than “simple”. It was originally created to house the revolutionary Beta21 movement - the first Swiss quartz movement.
Recognising the timeless appeal of their design, the brand revived it in 2015. Created for Only Watch 2017, the present example is a unique piece of the revived line featuring an incredible brown Pietersite dial with a yellow gold case. Extremely rich in texture, the yellow gold stepped case beautifully complements the dial.
A statement of design and elegance such as few others, this unique piece not only is in perfect condition but it is also offered complete with its original box and warranty.
