With a legendary status among collectors of vintage Rolex timepieces, the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona Paul Newman timepieces are most certainly rare gems. The reference 6264 is an interesting reference in the lineage and produced in very limited quantities in the early 1970’s. As a transitional reference, the 6264 features the classic style pump pushers with the absence of screw-down. With that said, when the caseback is opened, one can see that it is fitted with the new and upgraded caliber 727, instead of the caliber 722 featured in 6239 and 6241 similarly references without screw-down pushers. Featuring a black bezel insert similar to the ref. 6241, the 6264 was also launched with a solid metal bezel counterpart, the ref. 6262. It is believed that with the four references combined 6239, 6241, 6262 and 6264 no more than 16,300 examples has ever been produced with approximately 1120 examples encased in gold.

The present example is a beautiful and rare Rolex Cosmograph Daytona ref. 6264 with black “Paul Newman” dial in stainless steel. Featuring a tri-coloured dial correct for stainless steel models, the absence of “OYSTER” under “Rolex” is also correct for pump pusher references. Furthermore, the present example displays the correct style of typography typically seen in examples of 6264 fitted with Paul Newman dials with softer serifs. In attractive condition, the case is well-proportioned and features nicely positioned pinholes with balanced lugs, and a correct Twinlock 600 crown. With an all original black “Paul Newman” dial, the present ref. 6264 is a nice example that collectors of vintage timepieces will certainly appreciate.
