- In 2020, Finnish artisan Sarpaneva commemorated the 75th anniversary of the popular Finnish comic, Moomin, illustrated by none other than Tove Jansson. In 2021, an additional limited edition collaboration was produced in a total of 100 pieces made in four different hand variants in steel rhodium, like the present example, flamed blue, red gold and pitch black.
- Drawing inspiration from Jansson's original black and white illustration, Sarpaneva infused his creativity and technical expertise into the Moominvalley fairytale. The watch goes above and beyond the simple paying homage to the cartoon; it serves as a statement within the industry, showcasing the use of Super-Luminova not just as a functional feature for telling time in the dark but as a form of artistic expression as the dial magically lights up showcasing vibrant colors in the dark (or under UV light).
- With its crown located at 4'clock and its open caseback, which invites the wearer to admire the self-winding rotor carved out of the firm’s signature angry moon-face with luminous-filled eyes and mouth.
- Offered in virtually unworn condition, the timepiece is further complete with its original accessories. The present Sarpaneva x Moomin is number 20 of 25 pieces made with the two-tone steel rhodium minute and hour hands.
