The UR-100V T-Rex is a strikingly unconventional timepiece that merges futuristic horology with prehistoric inspiration. Its case is crafted from bronze and features a distinctive hobnail pattern that mimics the texture of reptilian scales, which explains the “T-Rex” moniker. This pattern is achieved through a meticulous process of milling, sandblasting, and chemical treatment, resulting in a rich, aged patina that gives the watch a primal, almost fossil-like appearance. Despite its rugged aesthetic, the watch is surprisingly compact and wearable, measuring 41mm in diameter and sitting comfortably on the wrist thanks to its curved caseback.

The dial showcases the brand’s signature satellite time display, where rotating hour satellites sweep across a minute track.

Limited to just 22 pieces, the UR-100V T-Rex is a true collector’s item. It is complimented as an extraordinary fusion of avant-garde design, technical ingenuity, and a touch of prehistoric fantasy.

Offered in well-preserved condition, the present example distinguishes itself with a striking iridescent crocodile leather strap. The surface shimmers with delicate blue tones that shift subtly under light, creating a mesmerizing contrast against the rugged, hobnail-patterned bronze case. Adding a bold twist, the strap is lined with neon green lining, amplifying the visual tension between organic elegance and raw, industrial texture.

Urwerk

Swiss | 1997
The Swiss firm's name "Urwerk" is a play on the German word meaning clockwork. "Ur" is an ancient Sumerian city in which the populace used sundials for timekeeping, while "werk" is German for creation. The company started by Felix Baumgartner and Martin Frei is known for their innovative avant-garde designs inspired by space travel. With their own take on time indication, like many of their contemporaries, their futuristic timepieces are rooted in high-end traditional watchmaking. Their signature floating method of time indication using rotating satellites traces back to a watch made in 1656. Producing only 150 watches per year, they have impressed connoisseurs with their innovativeness and cutting-edge technical prowess.
