Future Systems was founded in 1979 by Jan Kaplicky. For ten years he developed a body of innovative and visionary projects and concepts that inspired a generation of designers and architects. In 1989 Amanda Levete joined Jan Kaplicky as a partner and a new era of built work began "from their turbo charged hi-tech beginnings to recent organic forms as a point of departure in architecture" Deyan Sudjic. Future Systems are often quoted as "laying down the agenda for architecture in the 21st century" Future Systems’ award winning and influential architectural work can be seen in the seminal Media Centre at Lord's Cricket Ground in London, UK, which was awarded the RIBA Stirling Prize, the landmark Selfridges store in Birmingham,UK, Comme des Garçons boutiques in New York, Paris and Tokyo as well as private houses in London and Wales. They have done design work for Alessi, Fontana Arte, Salviati, Materialise and Established & Sons. Furniture design is an increasingly important aspect of their work - it is the testing ground for new ideas, forms and complex geometries which in turn are influencing the design of their buildings. Current projects include a school in London. a museum for Maserati in Modena, a subway station in Naples in collaboration with Anish Kapoor, apartments in Copenhagen and new furniture pieces for Established & Sons. Amanda Levete trained at the Architectural Association and worked for Will Alsop and Richard Rogers before joining Future Systems. She lectures around the world, contributes to a number of publications and is a regular broadcaster as well as a trustee of Art Angel and the Architecture Foundation. The present lot is an experimental prototype of the "H-K" table. The "H-K" table was designed for the clients of the award winning Hauer-King house in London. When the clients out grew their innovative home they moved and in 1998-1999 Future Systems added a striking new kitchen and dining room to their 18th-century terraced house of which the "H-K table" was the centerpiece. For the dining area Levete produced this organic table.

Only two examples of the "H-K" table have been produced, the present lot and the one installed in Bedford Row.
