Cabochon has been and still is a definitive shape for jadeite. It was introduced to China from the West in the early Qing period. The best translucent jadeite is highly receptive to this form, displaying unique optical qualities to great effect through its sleek domed surface. The present ring features a top-quality jadeite cabochon of vibrant emerald green colour with great translucency, rarely found and may also be referred to as 'imperial jadeite' in the market. Simple prong-set karat gold ring mount further highlights the illuminating quality and saturated hue of this fine jadeite cabochon.
