  • Catalogue Essay

Similar to Jeff Koons's Luxury and Abtraction exhibtion, the present lot reveals Koons's ability to transform a readymade object into a social critique. At first glance the seemingly ordinary ice bucket holds no tangible significance. With minimal implications the present lot yields an abstraction that forces the viewer to think about the function of an ice bucket and its association with a lavish lifestyle especially the pleasures of drinking alcohol. Following this train of thought Koons's objective comes alive: "I wanted to show how luxury and abstraction are used to debase people and take away their economic and political power."
