In addition to the present lot, there is only one other example of a desk set produced at the metal workshop at the Bauhaus, an inkwell and tray designed by Marianne Brandt. Like Brandt’s inkwell, this desk tidy is thought to have been a prototype for a serial production. Throughout the period of 1926-1929, the notion of ‘small pieces for everyday life,’ such as this wonderful example, was ever-present in the artists’ work in the metal shop at Dessau.
