Audemars Piguet initially introduced a chronograph complication on the sportier Royal Oak Offshore in 1993. It was not until 1998 that the firm launched a chronograph version of its much admired Royal Oak. Featuring a thinner and smaller case than its Offshore cousin, the Royal Oak Chronograph provides the wearer a rather classic appeal. Equipped with the self-winding cal. 2385 based off the cal. 1185 by Frederic Piguet.
Retaining its classic and slim profile of the original Royal Oak, the ref. 26300 was released in 2008 replacing its predecessor. While its aesthetics may look very similar to the ref. 25830, the ref. 26300 features a case that was completely re-designed and rebuilt with a three-piece case, similar in construction to the case of the Offshore.
The present example, featuring a rare and appealing brown grande tappisserie dial with attractive orange accents, measures at 39mm in case diameter. Preserved in excellent overall condition and further delivered with its Certificate of Authenticity, this discontinued model is a fantastic iteration and a handsome specimen of the revered Royal Oak Chronograph.
A specialist in the manufacture of complications since it was established in 1881, Audemars Piguet never ceases to impress with a rich history of creating bold, even audacious, timepieces underpinned by traditional watchmaking at its finest. This Le Brassus-based Swiss manufacturer is one of only two major manufacturers still owned by the founding family. Since its earliest days, AP is considered a leader in the field of minute repeaters and grande complication pocket and wristwatches. The brand is devoted to preserving the history of watchmaking in the Vallée de Joux, showcased at their superb museum in Le Brassus.
Today, the brand is best known for its Royal Oak models, a revolutionary luxury sports watch launched in 1972. Other key models include early minute repeating wristwatches, vintage chronograph wristwatches, such as the oversized reference 5020, perpetual calendar watches and the Royal Oak Offshore, first introduced in 1993.
