    - When Audemars Piguet unveiled the world's first luxury sports watch in 1972, the Royal Oak, it was a revelation. With its audacious octagonal bezel, integrated steel bracelet and striking dial, the Royal Oak established a design vocabulary entirely its own. However, for the first three decades of its life, the Royal Oak relied on outsourced movements from other manufactures.

    - That all changed with the launch of the present ref. 15300 in the early 2000s. For the very first time, a Royal Oak housed a movement created in-house by Audemars Piguet: the self-winding cal. 3120. This meticulously finished movement signaled Audemars Piguet's emergence as a manufacture in the truest sense, capable of developing movements tailored to its most important watches.

    - Featuring a 60-hour power reserve, bridge-suspended Gyromax balance and date mechanism with safety clutch system, cal. 3120 was engineered to perfection. Its 39mm octagonal case in stainless steel, handsome "Grande Tapisserie" black waffle dial and integrated bracelet have secured the Royal Oak's status as one of the most instantly recognizable watches of any era.

    - Now discontinued, ref. 15300 has swiftly achieved collectible status. Rarely surfacing in today's market, especially in exceptional condition as here, it epitomizes a pivotal era for the Royal Oak and its illustrious manufacture. For the discerning collector, the present example complete with its accompanying accessories offers an opportunity to acquire a Royal Oak that has become a modern archetype, cementing the model's prestige for decades to come.
