  • Catalogue Essay

    - Preserving the legacy of Abraham-Louis Breguet, the modern Breguet firm is marked by their extraordinary designs which serve as a testament to its traditional craftsmanship. Hora Mundi means “world time” in Latin, and it was introduced as a part of the Marine collection in the 2000’s. Retaining the timeless aesthetics of a Breguet watch, while introducing new movement and dial innovations, its design serves as an outstanding example of the technical mastery the brand strives to uphold.

    - The present Breguet reference 3700 Hora Mundi in yellow gold features the iconic Breguet-style case design combining case band fluting with straight Breguet lugs, and signature decorative details like the blued Breguet hands and silvered brushed hour ring on the dial. Further equipped with a unique double crown mechanism, the timepiece displays the time in 24 different cities through an inner crown that controls rotation of time zones, in addition to indicating date via an aperture at the 6 o’clock.

    - Supremely refined and elegant, the present specimen is well-preserved and is the perfect companion for the world traveller.

    Breguet

    Swiss • 1775

Established in 1775 by Abraham Louis Breguet, widely considered the greatest watchmaker of all time, the storied brand continues to thrive in the modern era, creating exceptional high-end watches as the Swatch Group's premier prestige brand. Some of the most important and lasting inventions in watchmaking are attributed to Abraham Louis Breguet, including the tourbillon, shock resistance and the use of hammers and gongs employed in nearly all minute repeating watches made since.

Eighteenth and nineteenth century Breguet pocketwatches are especially sought-after by collectors, and many of them were made for the elite of European society, including Napoléon and Marie Antoinette. Key wristwatches from the twentieth century include oversized dress watches, two-register chronographs, triple calendars and Type XX aviator's chronographs made for the French military and civilians.
