  • Catalogue Essay

    - In just a few years, the Bulgari Octo Finissimo model has established itself as a major player in the high-end premium sports watch industry.

    - The Octo Finissimo's sleek taught lines, strong look, and extremely thin casing have become instantly recognizable and a favorite among collectors since its debut in 2017 with automatic movement and integrated bracelet.

    - The Bulgari cal. BVL 138 powered by a platinum rotor housed in the Octo Finissimo is one of the world's slimmest automatic movements, measuring only 2.23mm thick and boasting a 60-hour power reserve - the casing is remarkably only 5.15mm thick.

    - In 2022 in celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the Octo Finnissimo as well as the man who designed it, Bulgari release two Octo Finissimo now dubbed as "Sketch" by collectors. Taking the original sketches by Bulgari's product creation executive director, Fabrizio Buonamassa Stigliani, two models each in a limited edition of 200 pieces were launched with the original hand sketches as the dials: A time only Octo Finissimo Automatic (the present lot) and an Octo Finissimo chronograph GMT (also offered in the same auction).

    - The present Octo Finissimo “Sketch” with a whimsical "human-touch" is in “like-new” unworn condition with its full set of accessories.

  • Artist Biography

    Bulgari

    Italian

Originally from Kalarites, Greece, Sotirios Voulgaris emigrated to Rome because of Greece's rising poverty and difficulty separating from the Ottoman Empire. He set foot on Italian soil in 1880 with little money in his pocket and spent the next four years preparing what would go on to become Italy's oldest jewelry company.

In 1884, Bulgari opened its doors to the Italian people with its offering of jewelry and accessories. Bulgari's style takes from traditions in Greek and Roman craftsmanship to elegantly balance volume and subtlety. Later, in the late 1960s, Bulgari bridged classicism and modernity by introducing its seductive, now-iconic Serpenti collection of snake-shaped coil bracelets and watches. It is through its meticulous combination of influences that Bulgari has garnered an international and loyal high-profile clientele, which included Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn. These Hollywood stars have immortalized the house's unique gem-adorned bracelets, necklaces and earrings in rounded forms.
