  • Catalogue Essay

    - With flair, subtlety, and collectors in mind, the Cartier Santos Dumont "Les Flâneurs" culminates two years of collaboration. This exceptionally novel edition reimagines Cartier's inaugural aviator watch for the extravagant Alberto Santos-Dumont. At first glance, abundant emerald green radiates irresistible charm. Meticulously crafted Roman numerals mingle with Chinese characters, nodding to the timepiece's cultural origin.

    - With visionaries Wei Koh, Auro Montanari, and Shary Rahman guiding Cartier’s prowess, the “Les Flâneurs” club brought their special order to life. Produced in stainless steel and limited to just 50 pieces, a rare emerald cabochon crowns the arresting green dial.

    - Turning the watch over reveals a playful four-leaf clover lucky charm lacquered in green, adding a touch of playfulness to the timeless design. Engraved with the club’s name, a small detail engraved on the bottom will hit the soft spot for watch collectors.

    - “Méchanique” is not something you see every day from the large sized Santos Dumont. Powered by a quartz movement in the regular production, this was a special request by the visionaries of the club to heighten the collectability of the present timepiece.

    - The green crocodile strap perfectly complements the verdant soul of the Cartier Santos Dumont “Les Flâneurs.” Complete with accessories in “like-new” condition, this remarkable collector's item awaits a kindred spirit who shares a passion for watchmaking history.

    Cartier

    French

With the Constitution of 1848 came a new standard for luxury in France. Founded one year prior by Louis-Francois Cartier, the house of Cartier was one of the first to use platinum in jewelry making. This incredibly expensive material became the stepping-stone for Cartier to experiment in form, mechanisms and attitude. It helped men move from pocket watches to wristwatches, effectively making the watch much more functional and prominent in a man's overall wardrobe.

Cartier did not only touch on functionality. Inspired by a commissioned painting by George Barbier featuring a black panther at the feet of an elegantly bejeweled woman, Cartier began incorporating wild animals in his designs—most notably, Cartier Panthère rings, bangle bracelets and watches. Yet it wasn't until the late 1960s that the house of Cartier debuted their iconic yellow and rose gold LOVE collection, which includes the famous bracelet that only a special screwdriver can open.
