British artist Dave White has long been interested in sneakers, collaborating with the Jordan Brand and Nike on numerous occasions. For his 2016 Air Max 95 collaboration with Nike, White explored the theme of prey and predator using two dynamic paintings from his Albion series in 2014 celebrating British wildlife. The design of the original Air Max 95 was inspired by the structure of the body—the lacing mirrors the spine, the straps are the ribs, and the panels that create the uppers are meant to suggest the muscular system and skin. These biomorphic features were reimagined by White through his use of color and texture in ways that speak to both animal and art.
