Ellie Lasthiotaki, who is originally from the island of Crete in Greece, titled this artwork Anasa, which means “breathe in” or “take a breath” in Greek. From a bird’s eye view, we observe the beachgoers with their golden umbrellas and a mesmerising swirling ocean, which grants the viewer a moment of visual refuge from the frantic world they inhabit.

Lasthiotaki draws inspiration from the natural world, the constantly shifting moods of the ocean and Gaia, the personification of Earth in Greek mythology. She now resides in Singapore and is acclaimed in Asia as a double finalist in the prestigious International Artist Grand Prize Competitions, Art Revolution Taipei 2019 and 2022.
