Catalogue Essay
It was only after 30 years that female photographer, Galina San’ko talked about her experience during the war: “I was not afraid of difficulties, bad living conditions, lack of comfort. I tried to overcome everything just like the men. And I still can’t forget the difficult life near the blockade Leningrad. Everywhere were ruins and fires, there was nowhere to take shelter and get warm. Was I afraid? Yes. Many times, in the hell of shooting fire I wished, that they would hit me, that the end would come”. (KomKniga, V. Stigneev, Vek Fotografii 1894-1994, Moscow, 2005, p. 149)
