The Reverso à Éclipses collection is a celebration of the tradition of fine enameling and haute horologie. This unique piece, made by special order, displays a multi-chrome enamel portrait of a Chinese lady holding a fan who is artistically and skillfully rendered.
Fashioned after the 1991 oil on canvas titled Poppy by the renowned Chinese artist Chen Yifei (1946 – 2005), the enamel displays the romantic realism he is best known. The enamel work is signed by Christophe Bernardot, a Jaeger-LeCoutre enameller. The Reverso case is enhanced with a shutter system, opened and closed through a wheel at the 2 o’clock, to reveal the portrait beneath. The in-house manual caliber 849 is only 1.85mm thick, which allows for the maker to add these exquisite enamels. Presented in excellent overall condition, this is arguably a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own a Reverso like none other.
Not all companies in the watchmaking field have been able to stand the test of time quite like Jaeger LeCoultre, also known as the "watchmaker's watchmaker." Founded in 1833 by Antoine LeCoultre and originally named LeCoutre, the firm provided watchmaking's top brands, such as Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin and Audemars Piguet, the high-grade, unfinished mechanical movements with which they completed their watches.
In the early 1900s, Cartier's watch supplier Edmond Jaeger sought out LeCoultre's help in creating the world's thinnest watches. The collaboration resulted in the creation of Cartier's earliest Tank and Santos watches, all housed with LeCoultre movements. The duo decided to merge in 1937, and the firm officially became the Jaeger-LeCoultre brand by which collectors know and adore it today. Some of the firm's most significant and important timepieces include the Reverso, the Memovox, the Atmos clock and, among modern watches, their Master Complications.
