Lot Essay:
Considered one of the most influential jewelers of the 20th century, JAR is a post-Modernist jeweler who single handedly changed the course of jewelry history. His use of reverse set diamonds, vivid gemstones, and untraditional metals push the boundaries of craftsmanship. JAR produces about 100 unique pieces a year, many of which are bespoke creations for his exclusive clientele. In 2013, The Metropolitan Museum of Art hosted a retrospective of his work featuring 395 jewels on loan from private collections. This exquisite pair of ‘Lace Cuff Bracelets’, made for an important American collector, was object 312 in the exposition. Designed in 2001, each cuff is meticulously crafted from a single piece of metal and delicately set with white and colored diamonds throughout. JAR jewels of this magnitude rarely come up for auction, making this a rare opportunity for true collectors of important jewelry.
