  • Catalogue Essay

At a time when being ‘green’ is of utmost concern, Johanna Grawunder’s approach is particularly relevant: mass production techniques, and low-cost materials such as polished stainless steel, steel cables, and painted metal, the use of which is a signature of the artist. Grawunder’s designs are straight orward and unadorned as with the present lot, a proto-type steel suspension chandelier from the 2007 ‘Davos Dilemma’ exhibition at the American Academy in Rome. Often referred to as being provocative and sustainable, Grawunder’s recent work also proves to be contemporary and timely.
