  • Catalogue Essay

In 1991, photographer Len Prince worked with The Ford Modelling Agency on a series of photographs of models in vintage bathing attire. He asked his stylist to source classic swimwear, and then began photographing the agency’s models who patiently posed in front of Prince’s 8-by-10-inch view camera. The resulting photographs comprised his first solo exhibition in 1992, which sold out very shortly after its opening. Prince then produced a limited edition of large-format platinum palladium prints from the series, including the images offered here and in Lot 59. In these works, vintage styles combine with Prince’s technical mastery to create images that are simultaneously classic and wholly new.
