This selection of photographs by Leon Levinstein is a dynamic snapshot of his work in and around New York City from the 1950s through the 1970s. His unique style combines the performative aesthetics of street photography and the more confrontational close-ups of psychological portraits. Present throughout is the pulse and energy of the city that served as his main subject throughout his career. Levinstein’s work is held in the collections of the International Center for Photography, New York, The Museum of Modern Art, New York and the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C., among others.
