  • Catalogue Essay

    - This 1950s Longines time-only watch is an attractive example of the brand's "Calatrava" style, featuring a stunning two-tone silvered dial. The dial's highlight is the unusual combination of "copper" Arabic numerals and an applied logo, which complement the rare 18k pink gold case beautifully.

    - The case is very well-preserved with very crisp French hallmarks found on the caseband, lugs and caseback.

    - Powered by the robust, manually-wound Calibre 27MS movement from the 1950s, this timepiece boasts anti-shock protection, ensuring reliable performance.

    - Inside the caseback is further stamped with the "PF" hallmark, which stands for Paul Frank et Fils, an established case maker near Paris (in Saint Leu la forêt) who produced cases in precious metals for renowned brands such as Longines and Omega.

    - The present movement was invoiced on 11th May 1957 to Société Française Longines, Longines’ subsidiary in France and was aimed to be fitted in a gold case. The other parts of the watch were produced locally under license from Longines. A simple three hands watch from the 1950s making it an excellent choice for anyone looking to have an evergreen classic example.

    Longines

    Swiss • 1832

Auguste Agassiz founded Longines in 1832, and today is considered to be a pioneer in the evolution of the chronograph. During the 1930s, Longines' chronograph wristwatches were used as tools for wartime aviators and military personnel. As one of Switzerland's largest manufacturers, Longines was an important supplier of wristwatches to militaries of multiple nations.

Today, they are owned by the Swatch Group and produce wristwatches for both men and women. Their vintage wristwatches continue to grow in desirability amongst collectors. Some of the most sought-after models include such oversized chronographs as the Lindbergh Hour Angle designed by Charles Lindbergh, Chronostop, Tre Tacche, A-7, Tasti a Spillo and Doppia Lanchetta.
