Catalogue Essay
Designed in 1992 for Claudia Skoda, The Skoda Boutique was a long and narrow space, approximately 12 by 50 ft, which demanded the refinement of any design which it would house. There was very little furniture in the space, rather the attention to details in the surroundings is where the genius of the design was played out. The ceiling was perforated by irregular holes that hid the lighting system, which allowed the space to maintain a unity, void of hanging obstacles to further close it in. The floors, although appearing to be one large surface, were beautifully lasercut tiles, that like the details of a fine silk fabric were to be noticed only upon closer inspection.
