The present chandelier comes from a series of several light fixtures Max Ingrand designed inspired by the petals of the Dahlia flower for Fontana Arte during his decade-long tenure as the brand’s art director. Blending the quintessentially French roots from his training there as a master glass artisan with the equally stylish tendencies of the established Italian glass house, the breathtaking drama and masterful elegance demonstrated by this work represent a highly successful synergy from the fusion of two well-known and respected individual lineages of historical design. The ‘Dahlia’ series of large, suspended fixtures featuring delicately curved glass panes in a range of confectionary hues, became an iconic style indicative of luxury in the home furnishing tastes of the 1950s-1960s, and remains a desirable and distinctive collecting opportunity today.
